Stay Safe

Published on Wednesday 14th December 2011

The SOS Bus, with the Police and the Kiss FM Street Team will be on Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket’s streets on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 December urging party revellers to stay safe.

In addition to conducting high-visibility patrols in the town centre's, Newmarket's Safer Neighbourhood Team and special constables will set up camp with the SOS bus and mobile police station in Newmarket's High Street from 7.30pm to hand out safety advice.
The team will be handing out small lip balms, displaying key safety messages to stay safe in the festive season, pub staff will be wearing 'NO means NO' and 'Drink Responsibly' badges in support of the stay safe campaign, which is funded by the Western Community Safety Partnership.
Sgt Mark Shipton said: "Stopping to meet members of the public from the mobile police station will allow us to have more of an impact on people heading out for a night in town.  For example, the SOS bus will be playing safety films on a large television.
"Of course we really want people to enjoy themselves, but, with the increased activity in the town over the festive season, we want to make sure people do that responsibly."
