Planning Committee

The Planning Committee is made up of 17 elected members and usually sits once a month. It is normally held on a Wednesday at 6pm. The meeting is open to the general public and there is an opportunity for members of the public to speak to the Committee prior to the debate. Three minutes is given to anyone wanting to speak either for or against a proposal.

An application may be considered by the Planning Committee for the following reasons:

  • If the application is of particular significance within the District
  • Following consideration by the delegation panel
  • If it is a major application and there is a contrary view from the Town/Parish Council (major applications are not considered by the Delegation Panel)
  • If the applicant is a Councillor, member of staff, their spouse or the District Council itself
