Article 4 directions

Article 4 Directions

An Article 4 Direction is an order which requires a planning application to be made where normally permitted development rights would apply.

Under Article 4 of the General Permitted Development Order, the Local Planning Authority can take away permitted development rights.

In Forest Heath, there are only three Article 4 Directions in force.

Red Lodge and surrounding area:

This Direction has the effect of requiring planning consent for the siting of a moveable structure (usually a residential caravan) anywhere within the curtilage of a dwelling. The requirement exists even if such a caravan is used for a purpose ancillary to the main dwelling. The Direction does not relate to the parking of a small touring caravan.

Barton Mills (adjacent to the A11 at Jubilee Farm):

This Direction restricts the use of land for not more than 14 days in any calendar year for the holding of a market. Planning consent is therefore required to hold a market on more than 14 days in any calendar year.

Land adjacent to Long View, Bridge End Road, Red Lodge:

This Direction prevents the following: (a) the erection, construction, maintenance, improvement or alteration of a gate, fence, wall or other means of enclosure (b) the storage of any caravan and (c) use of the land as a caravan site.
