Carbon Management Plan
What we are doing
We have written a Carbon Management Plan which sets out the actions that we can adopt to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from our own buildings and operations by 33% by the year 2014.
The Plan focuses on internal actions and is of importance to Members and staff. However, in view of the community leadership role which we are adopting on climate change issues, the Plan has a wider importance to partners across the district and county as a way of raising awareness and benchmarking actions.
The Plan also has some significant benefits for us and our residents, including:
- Saving money by managing and reducing our energy bills
- Preparing for new legislation and regulations relating to climate change, carbon emissions and energy consumption (for example, the Carbon Reduction Commitment)
- Providing an opportunity to lead local businesses and communities by example.
In order for us to monitor our work towards our target we need to set the baseline and identify our progress to date. We are currently calculating our carbon emissions for the last three years and will publish our progress to date once it becomes available.
This year we will be carrying out a number of projects which we hope will help us achieve our target to reduce our energy consumption, these projects include new boilers and heating distribution at the district offices in Mildenhall and solar photovoltaic's on large council owned buildings.
