Stray dogs

We take our statutory duties with regard to stray dogs seriously.

Working in partnership with a local kennel we can arrange for dogs to be collected. If you would like to report a stray dog during our normal working hours, then please contact us on 01638 719733. You can contact our kennels on 07518108764 between the hours of 17:00 -18:00 Mondays to Fridays and 09:00 - 12:00 during Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays if you want to arrange for collection of a stray dog.

Please note there is no service on Christmas Day 25 December, Boxing Day 26 December and New Years Day 1 January 2012.

You should contact us as soon as possible if you become aware that your dog is missing or if you wish to report a stray dog.

If a stray dog has identification, which it should have by law with a suitable tag or microchip, we will attempt to return the dog to the owner. If we are unable to return the dog we will take the dog to our kennels. The dog will be kept for seven days. Owners will be charged a collection and kenneling fee which increases each day the dog is kept. In cases where the dog is not claimed, it will be found a new home wherever possible.

We do not have a dog registration service; however, we recommend your dog is micro-chipped. This is a relatively simple procedure carried out by most local vets who will insert a small, electronic device just under the skin of the dog. If a dog strays it can be electronically scanned and therefore identified. It is a painless but effective process that will ensure a lost dog may be returned to its owner as quickly as possible. You can find out more about this from the RSPCA.
