Our enabling role
As well as providing housing advice and assistance to individuals and organisations, we have a duty to calculate and try to meet the need for affordable housing throughout the district. We do this in partnership with housing associations and private developers through our 'enabling role'.
The assistance we can offer falls into three main categories:
- Supporting the need for financial assistance made by partner associations for developments of affordable housing through the Homes and Communities Agency
- Mechanisms for the transfer of land/property
- Use of the planning system to achieve affordable housing contributions.
Our Enabling section also undertakes the following tasks:
- Produces our Housing Strategy
- Works in partnership with a range of partners to identify opportunities to provide affordable housing
- Monitors the activities of registered partners (ie, housing associations and societies regulated by the Homes and Communities Agency) to ensure good use of existing housing stock, allocations policies and other functions
- Undertakes housing needs research.
