How to make a payment

Online payments

This is a convenient and time saving feature for occasional payments and for those who do not already make regular payments by direct debit.

Please note that the email receipt service is currently suspended and will result in an error message. Despite this, your payment has gone through if you reach the receipt page. Please print your receipt. Sorry for the inconvenience.

What you can pay online

  • Council Tax - debit card only
  • Business Rates - debit card only
  • Overpayment of Housing Benefit - debit card only
  • Sundry debtor invoices - debit or credit card
  • Car park fines - debit or credit card

Which cards you can use

An additional fee of 1.85% of the transaction amount is payable on all payments by credit card. The system will accept the debit cards and credit cards listed below:

  • Delta (Visa debit)
  • Electron
  • MasterCard
  • Solo
  • Visa debit card
  • Visa credit card
  • Maestro

How to pay online

Have your bill, invoice or document to hand and simply complete the online payment form and use the 'Accept' button. If you choose to cancel your payment before completion, you can simply use the 'Cancel' button and all the details you have entered will not be recorded in our system.

You can pay more than one bill. For each bill:

  • Select the type of bill (Fund)
  • Enter the reference number for that bill (if it is for sundry debtors: enter the account number immediately followed by the reference number)
  • Enter the amount you wish to pay
  • Click the 'add' button if you wish to pay another bill.

When you have entered your payment(s), you must then enter your card details:

  • Card type
  • Card number
  • Issue number - only for cards that have an issue number
  • Issue date (month and year) - only for cards that have an issue date
  • Expiry date (month and year).

Please enter your payer details to help us resolve any problems - as a minimum:

  • Title
  • Forename
  • Surname
  • House number or name
  • Street
  • Town
  • Post Code

More may be required for some payments.

How to get a receipt

When you 'accept' the payment, you will be given a transaction reference number. We suggest you print this to use as a receipt.

Please note that the email receipt service is currently suspended and will result in an error message. Despite this, your payment has gone through if you reach the receipt page. Please print your receipt. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Queries

Use the contact details shown at the bottom of this page. If you can tell us the receipt number, it is easier for us to check your payment.

Security information

How we protect your information

We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which is an industry standard for internet payments. This means all of your personal and card details are protected using 128 bit encryption when your details are transmitted over the Internet. Our site is secured by Verisign.

Check you are using a secure site

When your browser displays the online payment page, you will notice that the URL at the top of the browser window starts with https instead of http. You will also see a closed padlock icon in the bottom right hand corner of your browser window. Put your mouse over the padlock for a little while and you should see the encryption strength. It should be at least SSL Secured 128 bit.

Shared or public PC

Make sure you are not overlooked as you enter your details. Close the browser window and, if applicable, log off when you have finished.
