The Development Control section deals with all planning
applications and associated appeals for developments within the
district as well as other statutory consents including works to
listed buildings and trees protected by Tree Preservation Orders.
Advice to the local community is also provided on a wide range of
development related issues.

Enforcement is an important part of the development control
framework. The Local Planning Authority has the power to take
action against breaches of planning control, where for example,
development occurs without the benefit of permission, or fails to
comply with a planning permission.

The main purpose of the Building Regulations is to ensure the
Health and Safety of people in and about buildings, dealing with
dangerous structures and demolitions. They are also concerned with
energy conservation and making buildings more convenient and
accessible for people with disabilities.

Forward Planning produce the long-term planning policies for the
district, such as the Local Development Framework (LDF), and other
planning policy documents. They plan, promote and monitor
development to deliver the appropriate level of homes, jobs and
community or transport facilities, whilst protecting and enhancing
the environment and character of the district, in order to provide
an acceptable and sustainable quality of life.
