FOREST
Heath District Council and Suffolk Police are hoping that a special
campaign during Euro 2008 will mean few penalties in the
district.
Throughout
the Euro 2008 football tournament the council and police will be
working to prevent crime and disorder, ensure public safety,
prevent nuisance and protect children. This is in line with the
council's priority of community safety.
Among
the issues the two agencies will be tackling are:
-
Under
age drinking
-
Drunken
and violent behaviour
-
Ignoring
the smoking law
-
Breaking
licensing law
-
Nuisance
and noise
-
Litter
They
will be doing this by offering education support to licensees and
making visits to and inspections of licensed premises. Enforcement
action will be taken when
necessary.
Councillor Eddie Stewart, Member Champion for
Community Safety, said: "We want everyone to enjoy this great
festival of football, but to enjoy it safely and responsibly. Our
similar campaign during the World Cup was very successful and I
look forward to working closely with the police again. Where crime
and anti-social behaviour are concerned we are a zero tolerance
council."
Michael Holdsworth, District Commander for the
Suffolk Police in Forest Heath, said:
"This partnership approach will help to maintain a safe, friendly
environment for those watching the football in licensed premises
across Forest Heath. We will be working with licensees to
re-enforce the message that any alcohol-fuelled disorder which
spoils the enjoyment of others will not be tolerated, and anyone
causing trouble during this tournament will be firmly dealt
with."
