Tree felling in Newmarket
13 May 2008

Some concern is being expressed about tree felling on a site, Arborfield, Newmarket. We have issued the following statement to the media today (13.5.08).

Forest Heath District Council is very disappointed with the approach the developer is taking on this site. All the trees are covered by Tree Preservation Orders and we arranged for an independent inspection of the trees on Thursday.
Some of the trees are dead, dying or dangerous and these can be felled without waiting for planning consent. However, it is unfortunate that, instead of waiting 24 hours for the detailed report, the developer rushed ahead and felled dead, dying and dangerous trees.

Some of the trees on the site are healthy and if they are removed this will be an offence which we will take very seriously.
