Tree Dressing With Angels |
FOREST Heath residents are
being asked to make a pledge to help the environment as part of a
Tree Dressing Day celebration.
Tree Dressing Day is celebrated during the first full weekend in
December and Forest Heath District Council's event is on Friday 5
December with an official opening at noon.
Drawing attention to the event, near Mildenhall Bus Station, will
be three-foot high Angels each holding a distinctive symbol ranging
from the recycling logo to images of the world, a wind turbine and
a solar panel.
The Angels are being designed and made by Liz Waugh and Mike
McManus of Obelon Arts who took their inspiration from the wooden
Angels in St Mary's Church, Mildenhall.
Many cultures and religions have winged figures, or Angels, as
messengers and the idea in Mildenhall is to have them roosting in
the tree with messages about the need for guardians of the world's
resources.
Shoppers and residents will be asked to make a pledge for the
environment, however small, and hang it with the Angels on the
tree. The first to make such a pledge will be Council Chairman,
Councillor Rona Burt, with Councillor Tony Simmons, Member Champion
for the Environment.
Visitors can also watch demonstrations of sustainable woodland
craft and have a go themselves.
