A GRANT secured by Forest Heath District Council is
helping to pay for refurbishment work about to start at Sandy Park,
Beck Row.
The council submitted a successful bid to Go-East
for a £750,000 grant for work at the 35 pitch travellers' site. The
rest of the refurbishment cost, £250,000, is coming from the
council's capital reserves.
The work will see all day rooms on the site
refurbished with new shower provision, kitchens, flooring, windows
and electrical wiring. The fencing around each plot will also be
renewed.
Residents of the site were consulted about the work
and their views and comments were included as part of the bid for
Government money.
Councillor Robin Millar, Member Champion for
Diversity, said: "This is an established site so I am very pleased
that we managed to secure such a large grant from Go-East. The
facilities at Sandy Park have a reputation for being well managed
and will now be even better for the refurbishment." There are spare
pitches on the site and families will move to these as work on
their pitches is undertaken.
The work is being managed by NPS Property
Consultants Ltd who have wide experience working on similar
projects.
