A DEDICATED crew, supported by two
local councils, has discovered some unusual items in their work to
keep the A11 and A14 clean and litter free.
While clearing a lay-by in Forest Heath the crew, who work jointly
for Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough
Council, found a cash till - minus its contents! Explicit material
and drugs related items have also been cleared.
In the past year the crew has collected 32 tonnes of waste from
their 33 kilometre section of the A11 and A14, including 883
bottles containing an estimated 1.25 tonnes of urine.
Councillor Peter Stevens, Chairman of the Joint Waste and Street
Scene Services Committee, said:
“It is extremely disappointing that due to the thoughtless actions
of some road users we have to deal with such huge amounts of
disgusting litter. However, this crew is doing a precarious job
safely and without incident. There is a marked improvement in the
appearance of the main trunk routes into the eastern region and we
take great pride in that”
