CHILDREN and young people are being invited to design a postcard
which captures their ideal park or open space as Forest Heath
District Council launches its Park on a Postcard competition.
The council is inviting artistic school children and young people
with a passion for photography, graphic design, drawing or painting
to conjure up their own postcard featuring the best thing a park or
open space can offer them.
Entries will be on display at Lark in the Park in Mildenhall on
12 July and the winning designs will be incorporated as a feature
on the council’s website.
Member Champion for Younger People, Councillor Simon Flack said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for those living in the district
to capture the best of Forest Heath’s parks and open spaces and
have their say in developing open spaces for the future which
everybody can enjoy.
"We want as many young people as possible to get involved and
send us their designs. Be imaginative, be creative and get
thinking. This is your chance for your favourite spot or design to
get noticed with the winning designs featuring on real postcards
which will help promote future events in and around our open spaces
to local residents !”
Park on a Postcard is open to three age groups: under nine years
old, under 13, and 13 years and over.
All entrants are being asked to produce their own designs
through pictures or words to illustrate what they consider would
make the ideal park or open space.
Entries should be designed onto a A5 sheet of paper (A4 folded
in half). The winning young person will receive a bumper pack of
arts materials for themselves and their school.
All entries should be marked clearly with name, age, school (if
applicable), address and telephone number and sent to Park on a
Postcard Competition, Forest Heath District Council, College Heath
Road, Mildenhall IP28 7EY.
Entries must be your own work and only one entry per person is
permitted. Entries close on 29 February 2008, with the winners to
be announced shortly thereafter. For more information telephone
01638 719295 or visit the young people's pages
