Newmarket Leisure Centre is a flagship project
for Forest Heath District Council and will provide the local
community with purpose built, high specification leisure
facilities. Residents may be aware of some construction issues on
site. The contractor, ISG Jackson, has taken the decision to
accelerate the works programme to ensure the leisure centre is
completed to specification for a late spring 2008
opening.
We aim to deliver a new leisure facility with
high standards of construction and the whole project team is
working together to ensure that every aspect of the new build
achieves this. Remedial work currently being carried out on site
will be at no additional cost to Forest Heath Council Tax
payers.
The external appearance of the site will also
undergo a transformation as ISG Jackson renews the protective
hoardings surrounding the site and introduces a number of viewing
panels so that local residents can check on progress.
On completion, Newmarket Leisure Centre will
boast an impressive range of new wet facilities, featuring a 25
metre main pool, a training pool, large changing rooms, health
suite and treatment rooms. These new facilities will be housed in a
two-storey steel frame building with an attractive glass façade,
which will seamlessly knit the existing buildings with the new
development.
Leader of Forest Heath District Council,
Councillor Geoffrey Jaggard said: "We are, naturally, disappointed
that the leisure centre has suffered some setbacks, but a new
project plan and renewed commitment will see positive progress on
this long awaited centre."
