Flag Raising Ceremony
Monday 22 June, 10.20am - photo opportunity
Forest Heath District Council will be holding a short flag raising
ceremony to mark the start of the week leading to National Armed
Forces Day.
Armed Forces Day is on Thursday June 27 and is a national
initiative which hopes to build upon the success of the Veterans
Day celebrations of the last three years. The council wants to
express its support for this day and has been given the unique
armed forces day flag to fly at its Mildenhall offices.
The ceremony will be held at the front of the council building
and will be attended by members of the Royal British Legion and
World War Two Veterans as well as Councillors and staff. A piper
will greet the guests and lead them to the vantage point to watch
the flag being raised.
The flag raising ceremony is one of the official activities
taking place as part of Armed Forces Day. The flags, on public
buildings, will be raised in unison at 10.30am in a show of
support, to honour British Armed Forces, past, present and
future.
The flag will remain flying until Monday June 29, after which it
will be taken down and presented to a local veteran.
