FOREST Heath District
Council is introducing a new scheme to help people who can't travel
by bus.
The Suffolk Concessionary Travel Voucher Scheme is being introduced
in Forest Heath from 1 April. The concession scheme will help
eligible disabled people and people who live in remote areas who
cannot access local buses.
It is an alternative to a bus pass and people cannot have
both.
People can have up to £80 worth of vouchers a year which can be
used with taxi companies participating in the scheme, anywhere in
Suffolk. In Forest Heath the taxi companies accepting the vouchers
are M and L Taxis, NewTax and Style Cars.
To qualify for vouchers people need to be aged 60 or over, severely
disabled, or live in a remote area with a very limited bus service.
If applying on the grounds of remoteness they also need to have
lived at their present address for at least five years. If you are
disabled your disability must make it impossible for you to use
conventional public transport. A qualified professional or someone
involved in your care needs to endorse this.
For more information please call in at the council offices at
Mildenhall, Newmarket or Brandon or call 01638 719000.
