TEENAGERS in Brandon are being offered an action packed
half-term (11-15 February) and will be able to choose from a range
of great new activities designed especially for them.
Forest Heath District Council Member Champion for Younger
People, Cllr Simon Flack said: "We recognise that young people’s
lives today are very different from those experienced by previous
generations. Providing activities for teenagers is therefore a
priority for Forest Heath, and we consider it an important step in
developing local communities and improving residents' quality of
life.
"Over the coming year we will be working closely with local
youth clubs to identify new activities which appeal to young
people. If the activities prove successful they could become a
regular feature for young people, either running as after school
activities or part of a school holiday programme.”
Topping the charts of the week's events are a series of DJ and
Mixing Sessions open to all abilities, with a chance to develop
skills in producing and performing new music alongside experts.
The sessions will take place throughout the week at The
Flowerpot, London Road from 1pm-4pm each day and on Friday those
taking part will have the opportunity to perform for local people.
Similar sessions have proved very popular, and so anyone aged 13-19
living in Brandon who is interested is urged to book a place in
advance and it will cost just £2 to register for the week.
For those who are feeling a bit more active or want to let off
some steam, there are plans to schedule special youth boxing gym
Fit and Fun sessions for the over 14’s on Monday 11 February and
Thursday 15 February at Brandon Leisure Centre. These will cost £2
per person.
Meanwhile any young people who have home, school or personal
issues worrying them can drop in to The Flowerpot on Tuesday 12
February between 2pm and 4pm for a special Drop In run by
Connexions. Whatever the problem, Connexions can help young people
access the information and advice they need. No appointment is
necessary.
On Wednesday 13 February there is a chance to relax and get top
tips on looking good with the BodyShop at Home at Brandon Leisure
Centre’s special Pamper Party for girls and young women aged 13-19
between 1pm and 3pm. This session costs £2 per person.
The activities have all been co-ordinated with local partners by
Community Development Officers at Forest Heath District Council abd
youth workers at Suffolk Youth and Connexions Service.
