NEWMARKET
people now have an easy way to voice concerns about aircraft
stacking plans, thanks to Forest Heath District Council.
The council has opened petitions at Palace House in Palace
Street and in its offices at The Guineas. Anyone who has concerns
about the National Air Traffic Service's plan to bring stacking
zones closer to Newmarket can, from Monday 28 April, sign a
petition in the town.
Leader
of the council, Councillor Geoffrey Jaggard, said: "We share the
concerns of the town and race horse industry and want to help by
enabling objectors to sign petitions in the town centre. We will
deliver the petitions to the National Air Traffic Service with our
objection to this proposal."
The National Air Traffic Service has launched a public consultation
on the proposals which could see planes arriving at London's
airports put in a holding position over South Cambridgeshire and
close to Newmarket. This may see planes circling above one another
in an oval pattern starting at 7,000 feet.
People
involved in the racing industry fear the increased number of planes
in the area and the rise in aircraft noise will have a damaging
effect on valuable stud and race
horses.
