Flag Raising Ceremony

22 Jun 2009

FOREST Heath District Council, today, held a Flag Raising ceremony to mark the start of a week of celebrations in the lead up to National Armed Forces Day (27 June).

Guests at the ceremony were welcomed by a piper and included ten members of the Mildenhall branch of the Royal British Legion. Cllr Rona Burt, Vice Chairman of the council, gave a short speech before the flag was raised at 10.30am.

After the ceremony guests were invited inside the council building for light refreshments.

Cllr Burt said: “The ceremony was short and simple and we were proud to welcome members of the Royal British Legion to help us honour and support the British Armed Forces of the past, present and future.”

The flag will remain flying until Monday June 29, after which it will be taken down and presented to a local veteran.
