Council to tackle illegal car
sales |
Forest Heath District Council is cracking down on car owners who
offer multiple cars for sale from roadside verges and other open
spaces. Illegal car sales impact on the environment and local
businesses and the Council has received a number of complaints from
local residents and businesses about the growing problem.
Councillor Rona Burt, Member Champion for Regulatory Services,
said: “One of the Council’s key priorities is the street scene and
environment which was identified by our community as an area for
improvement. Over recent months, there has been a marked increase
in the number of cars being offered for sale at specific sites
across the district. This makes those areas unsightly and it’s a
distraction to motorists. Most importantly, it’s illegal which is
unfair on legitimate businesses operating across the
district.”
Council enforcement officers will visit known sites, or sites which
are the subject of a complaint, check registration details to
identify the ownership of vehicles being offered for sale and take
action against both the vehicle owner and land owner where
appropriate.
