AN open day is being held at Mildenhall Museum as part of the
expansion plans for the popular King Street attraction.
Organised by Forest Heath District Council, the idea is to get
visitors to voice their opinions of the current museum and how it
could be improved.
On Saturday 29 March there will be two sessions at 11am and 2pm
when visitors will be shown around the exhibits and then invited to
a short discussion session to air their views. The tour and
discussion should last about 90 minutes.
Space is very limited and there are only 20 places available on
the day so if you would like to be part of shaping the museum's
future then please call Arts and Heritage Officer Lizzi Cocker on
01638 719257 or email her at

Mildenhall Museum is home to replicas of the famous Mildenhall
Treasure. Unearthed by a ploughman in West Row in 1943, the hoard
of treasure contains 34 pieces of Roman silverware including The
Great Dish. This is the most spectacular piece of the treasure and
measures 60.5cm in diameter and weighs 8.256kg. The original
silverware, which includes goblets, bowls, spoons and platters, is
housed in The British Museum.
The Mildenhall Museum also houses artefacts from the area dating
from Anglo-Saxon times, through to the Victorian era and
beyond.
