Our Purpose
That every child and young person in the district has access to
safe local play facilities and activities to suit his or her age
range and interest.
Our Aims
- Promote and facilitate the development of children and young
people, through play, active pursuits and creativity, through the
provision of quality play space, equipped play areas and programmed
activities.
- Maximise the provision of outdoor space for play and informal
recreation opportunities by utilising the Council’s planning system
and working with local landowners.
- Provide opportunities for children to play safely, through the
provision of equipped indoor and outdoor play areas and structured
programmes of children’s activities throughout the year.
- Ensure that all play areas are safe and well maintained and
contain equipment best suited to the developmental needs of
children and young people.
- Ensure that all developers of new leisure facilities,
residential developments and other major facilities provide
appropriate play facility sites within the development.
- Work with partners to ensure better co-ordination of the
provision of, and access to, play facilities and services across
the district.
