Information about Water
Conservation
Water is in limited supply and predictions suggest that periods of
water shortage may be on the increase. Conserving water can benefit
to the environment and your pocket, especially if you are on a
water meter. There are many ways you can reduce your water use from
simple lifestyle choices to technology and equipment you can
install.
Rainwater collection or grey water recycling systems help
to minimise your water consumption.
Rain water
systems can be as simple as collecting rainwater in a butt or more
advanced tank systems. The water can be used to water the garden or
wash the car, and more advanced systems can be used to flush
toilets. Grey water recycling reuses washing water from
sinks, showers and baths, and can be used in the same way as
rainwater although for the garden a filter system is often required
to remove pollutants.
Green Roofs
There are many benefits to green roofs which include offering sound
and thermal insulation, providing habitat, absorbing CO2
and producing O2, and decreasing the speed of runoff. By
allowing rainwater to trickle into the drainage system, incidents
of localised flooding can be minimised.
