Clinical waste is any waste which arises from the treatment of
humans or animals that can cause infection or harm.
This may include human or animal tissue, blood and bodily fluids,
drugs and medicines, swabs and dressings and syringes, needles and
other sharp instruments.
Household Clinical Waste
Clinical waste (including syringes and needles) should not be
disposed off with your normal domestic waste as it can cause harm
to the person who is collecting it.
If you are a householder receiving treatment or care within your
home and have clinical waste to dispose of, please contact your
local health care professional or Primary Health Care Trust for
advice.
Alternatively, a free separate collection can be arranged by
the council using our contractor Hygieco Ltd. Please contact
Environmental Services above for more information or to arrange a
collection.
Commercial Clinical Waste
Forest Heath District Council does not provide a service to remove
clinical waste from businesses but operators who charge for this
service can be found in Yellow Pages or other commercial
directories.
