Forest Heath District Council is working to improve the energy efficiency of housing across the District in order to reduce resident’s fuel bills and reduce the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere.
Information about Home Energy Efficiency
There are many ways that you can improve the energy efficiency of your home. Information about energy savings and possible help can be found in the Download section below - the document "Energy Savings and Possible Help"
There are many people within the District that pay more than 10% of their income to adequately heat their home. This is commonly called fuel poverty. Fuel Poverty can be caused by inadequate thermal insulation, inefficient and uneconomic heating systems, low household income and high fuel prices. Living in a cold home that cannot provide sufficient warmth and comfort can have a detrimental effect on your health, however, there may be a range of different actions that can be taken to improve your circumstances. Through helping residents to make their homes more efficient we aim to make heating their home more affordable.
To help combat this Forest Heath District Council with another 46 local authorities and partners have come together in partnership with the Carbon Action Network - East to launch the Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative (CRI). The Carbon Reduction Initiative is an innovative scheme that allows house holders a smart way to insulate their home using approved contractors vetted by the project, in the first fixed price grant available in the UK. The Scheme will also allow homeowners to discover other money saving ideas they could build into their homes by saving energy by contacting CRI.
This new service provides a simple cost-effective way for residents in Forest Heath District and Suffolk as a whole to get their homes insulated. For the first time ever, it guarantees a set price across the East with householders only having to make a single phone call or visit to the CRI website. Householders can access the Carbon Reduction Initiative by calling 0800 232 1677 for free or by visiting www.easterncri.org . The system is completed by giving a preferred installer that is based in the area, minimising carbon footprints and information is available of preferential local offers.
Grants for Energy Efficiency
Government funded Warm Front grants are available to those in receipt of certain benefits and the over 70's (see downloads).
Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative a scheme that allows house holders a smart way to insulate their home using approved contractors vetted by the project, in the first fixed price grant available in the UK.
West Suffolk Local Strategic Partnership currently offer grants of up to £80 for those aged between 60 and 70 years and have a household income of less than £18,000 but who are not receiving benefits. (see contacts).
Local installers also offer discounted and in some cases free insulation (usually the same criteria as Warm Front). Forest Heath District Council has worked with some local installers but we cannot guarantee they offer the best deal for all residents (see downloads).
FHDC Private Sector Housing Team also offers loans to people in receipt of certain benefits to raise properties up to the Decent Homes Standard. Houses that fail decency due to thermal efficiency may have measures such as insulation installed.
