The Environmental
Information Regulations 2004 give the public access rights to
environmental information held by a public authority in response to
requests.
The Regulations came into force on 01 January 2005 together with
the Freedom of Information Act and cover any information in
written, visual, aural, electronic or any other material form
on:
- The state of the environment, such as air and atmosphere,
water, soil, land, landscape and natural sites including wetlands,
coastal land marine areas, biological diversity and its components,
including genetically modified organisms, and the interaction among
these elements

Factors, such as
substances, energy, noise, radiation or waste, including
radioactive waste, emissions, discharges and other releases into
the environment, affecting or likely to affect the elements of the
environment mentioned above

Measures, such as
policies, legislation, plans, programmes, environmental agreements,
and activities affecting or likely to affect the elements and
factors referred to above as well as measures or activities
designed to practise those elements
-
Reports on the
implementation of environmental information
-
Cost-benefit and other
economical analyses and assumptions used within the framework of
the measures and activities referred to above
-
The state of human
health and safety, including the contamination of the food chain,
where relevant, conditions of human life, cultural sites and built
structures in as much as they are or may be affected by the state
of the elements of the environment mentioned above

Q: Will it cost me anything to get the information?
A:
Enquiries from the general public, taking no more than 30 minutes
of our time, will not incur a fee. However, administration costs
incurred, in terms of paper used and such like, may be requested.
Requests from commercial sources or taking longer than 30 minutes
will be charged at a standard hourly rate for our time. Please
