FOREST Heath District Council is
leading the way for businesses to go green.
As part of its now complete Mildenhall office refurbishment project
movement responsive lights are installed to reduce electricity
consumption; new water efficient toilets are in place; and the
heating system has been upgraded.
Staff are being encouraged to car share, cycle or walk. During a
recent initiative they saved 11.6 kilos of CO2 by walking into the
town centre to buy discounted sandwiches from a local business. Not
only did the atmosphere benefit, but staff had a healthy walk and
supported the local economy.
There is funding for businesses in Forest Heath to help them become
greener. There is £3.3 million available from the rural Development
Programme for England for business in the Brecks. Grants from this
fun are available to businesses in the following district council
wards: Brandon east and west; Eriswell, The Rows, Great Heath,
Iceni, Lakenheath, Manor, Market and Red Lodge.
The money can support farm-based diversification with a key focus
on businesses that make use of waste or green energy options;
developing supply chains for energy production and local food; and
assisting businesses adopt to the pressures on natural resources
created by both climate and demographic change. For more
