To ensure that we provide quality services,
we regularly monitor and manage our performance to identify
achievement and areas needing further improvement.
Like every local authority in England and
Wales, Forest Heath is regularly assessed on its performance. In
September 2004,
the Audit
Commission
conducted a Comprehensive Performance
Assessment (CPA) of our service and operations. On a
scale of Excellent, Good, Fair, Weak and Poor, we
were awarded a ‘Fair’ rating. Full details are
available in the Audit Commission's
inspection
report.
Annual Audit and Inspection
Letter
Each year since the CPA report, we have
received an Annual Audit and Inspection Letter compiled by the
Audit Commission in conjunction with our external auditors,
PricewaterhouseCoopers. The letter includes a Direction of
Travel assessment of our progress and how well we have
managed our finances (Use of Resources). Annual Audit
and Inspection Letters are an important element in informing the
Audit Commission regarding any potential re-categorisation under
the CPA framework.
The CPA framework continues through to 2009. A new
performance framework for local authorities will then be introduced
which will take the form of a Comprehensive Area Assessment
(CAA). The development and subsequent consultation of this
framework has been progressed by the Department of Communities and
Local Government and the Audit Commission. Further details
are expected later in 2008.
