Resilience of any community is
reliant on business and the ability to continue
trading. To achieve this, businesses should be aware of
the hazards which may affect their operation and ability to
function. These ‘disruptive challenges’ can come from within
or be external to the organisation. In order to be
prepared, businesses should identify these hazards and produce
plans on how they would meet and deal with them. This is
called Business Continuity Planning.
Local authorities in the UK have a statutory duty to promote
business continuity, by offering advice and guidance to the
business community. This process will hopefully ensure that
communities have resilience to disruptive influences.
