Free bus passes

From April 2008, a free national bus pass will be available to all people aged 60 and over and to people with certain disabilities.

This will enable travellers to use local buses nationwide between the hours of 9.30am and 11pm including bank holidays and weekends.  In many areas, including Forest Heath, these times will be extended to cover all day.  The new pass will enable travellers to use local buses anywhere in England, but does not cover travel on National Express Coaches.

New applicants who have reached the age of 60 or have an eligible disability can call in at either of the Forest Heath Information Centres in Brandon or Newmarket, the bus station in Mildenhall or the main Council offices in College Heath Road, Mildenhall, with proof of age or disability.  The main offices in Newmarket and Mildenhall are equipped to take a photograph at the time of application and the pass will be received through the post within 10 - 12 working days.  However, if you wish to apply at the Mildenhall bus station or at the Brandon office you will need to take a passport photograph, taken against a white background, with you when you apply.

Alternatively. if you wish to apply by post, either collect an application form from any one of our offices, or click on the Application Form link below where you can print off the form. Once completed, send it to us with a recent passport size photograph and proof of your age or disability. Please do not staple the photograph to the form.
We need to see original documents to prove your date of birth or disability, for example, a passport, driving licence or birth certificate, or in the case of disability, an award letter showing the higher rate componenet of DLA, or certificate of blindness. These will be returned to you by registered post.

Your completed application, documents and photograph should be sent to:

The District Offices, College Heath Road, Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk,  IP28 7EY.
