An Equality Impact Assessment
(EIA) is a process that enables us to check out how an
existing service or policy or a new service or policy affects
groups of people covered by equalities legislation and our
Comprehensive Equality Policy. It allows us to look at evidence or
consult as to whether the service or policy is discriminating
(actual or perceived to be) against a particular group of people.
We can then change the policy or service if it having an adverse
effect on some groups, or indeed highlight it as good practice if
it is having a beneficial effect.
We have now completed a process called "screening" which assesses
all our existing policies and strategies to identify whether they
are relevant to equality and may therefore have a potential impact
upon any of the groups of people concerned. From this we have put a
three year programme together to complete full Equality Impact
Assessments on these policies. All documents relating to EIAs can
be downloaded below.
